Sometimes the only thing wrong with a jacket is a broken zipper
It is so frustrating to put a jacket on only to find there is something wrong with the zipper. Replacing your zipper is no small undertaking.
Sometimes the problem with a zipper is a faulty zipper slide. In this case sometimes you can find another slide that will work but it has to be the same brand as the zipper. Zippers come in several brands – two of the most common are Coats and Clark, or YKK. My personal preference is YKK as I have found the Coats and Clark zippers to be less durable.

There are three ways a zipper can break – the first two mean that the zipper must be replaced. The third can sometimes be fixed.
- The zipper teeth are broken.
2. The zipper end is broken so that the slide will not stay on.
3. The zipper separates when you zip it up.
When the zipper separates like this sometimes you can replace the slide. It could also mean that the zipper slide has slightly pulled apart and is not bringing the two sides of the zipper together tightly enough. In this case try a pair of pliers to pinch the front end of the zipper slide together.
