When I first started the work at home journey, my oldest was an infant. I was still working part time at my retail job, doing some of the bookkeeping on-line from home. This was before my sewing business had grown into a substantial income stream.
At that point life seemed more about survival. Like making sure dinner was cooked, the baby wasn’t screaming and that I had enough sleep. True self-care was not part of the equation.
A year and a half later we welcomed our second child into the world. Survival mode continued for quite some time.
But as I came out of the fog, I remembered who I used to be. I used to love to jog. I used to love times of silence in places of nature, whether it be sitting next to a gentle flowing river or climbing a hill that overlooks our valley.
Slowly I began to build these back into my life. I knew I needed to be healthy, mentally, spiritually and physically.
Self-care looks different for each of us. We each must know ourselves well enough to recognize what we need to do to care for our bodies and our souls.
Part of learning self-care is planning margin in life and business to make time for these things. Going to the gym has become built into my weekly routine. It took a while to figure out a schedule that worked for me. I started with high expectations and tried to go five days a week but soon burnt out. I have developed a three-day rhythm that seems to work well. If I happen to be able to make a four day for exercise I count it as a bonus.

You’re wise to build margin enough in your schedule for self-care. I remember how busy life is as a mom with young kids. I used to make sure I could either go to the gym or go running or something for my physical health as well as for my mental sanity. 🙂 It’s not always easy to schedule it in, but it’s important for everyone.
Yes life as a mom with little ones can be so busy! Running definitely helps with the mental sanity! Blessings
