As a business owner time is money. But I’ve had to learn how to talk to myself about the pressure I feel time puts on me.
Not only is time money but it also has to do with my own standard of perfectionism, wanting things to be done quickly for my clients so that I maintain a good business reputation, and because at heart I like to make people happy.
At times I’ve had to stop to ask myself why I feel so pressured by time.
One thing that I’ve observed in my own thinking is that I have to give everything a proper place of value. When I sense my stress level rising as the clock ticks on and my to do list gets longer, I stop and breathe a little prayer, “Father show me what’s important today.”
We’ve all been told to keep our priorities straight, but sometimes are unaware that we aren’t living true to the priorities we say we have. The pace of life can take us by force, when the call comes for another dress that needs to be altered this weekend, or when the school emails needing another volunteer, or when my own voice in your head tells me that I need to have my home in better order.
With multiple things bombarding our minds it is challenging to filter through the chaos. It’s all too easy to say yes to all the demands, because it feels like you must do it or else you will be letting someone down.
Asking yourself questions is a great way to start understanding how you respond to time. You can ask yourself questions like
-How much time have I worked today? Is that how much I planned to work when I started my business?
– How much time am I spending with my family?
– Am I trusting God to take care of what I can’t?

Instead He longs for you to follow Him in a path of peace, not stressed about the things that need to be done, but asking Him to direct your path so that you have the ability to say no to the things that aren’t important and focus your attention on what is.
If you feel pressed for time because you feel like time is money, remind yourself that ultimately it is God who is in control of your finances and He will always provide for you when you commit your way to Him.
This is a daily discipline of the mind, body, will and spirit. To submit oneself to the leading of Your good Father.
Psalm 90:12 says “Teach us to realize the brevity of life so that we may grow in wisdom.”
The truth is that life is short, and you don’t want to waste your emotions and energy feeling driven by the clock.
A great way to start is with simple prayer, “Thank You God for the time you have given me, thank You that it is enough for everything You want me to do.”
